WHAT IS THE KIKS TEAM?
The KIKS Team is a
Christian, evangelistic Martial Arts Team operating out of Maranatha Baptist
Bible College and under the guidance of the Office of Student Ministries.
The Maranatha KIKS team consists of a group of college martial artists who
use their talents for the Lord Jesus by putting on demonstrations for kids,
youth, and adults while preaching the Word of God. To date, the MBBC KIKS
team has put on dozens of martial arts demonstrations, each time using
martial arts to demonstrate Biblical principles and then preaching from the
Bible. At demonstrations, the team uses self-defense techniques,
forms, weapons, weapon forms, breaks (wood and concrete), tension stunts,
and other things to pique the interest of kids and illustrate biblical
truths. Usually Biblical truths will be applied throughout the demo, and one
of the KIKS members will preach following the demonstration.
Both guys and girls practice as part of the
KIKS team, and some have diverse backgrounds in the martial arts (most have
none before joining the team, but they learn quickly), but all of us have
one characteristic in common- the desire to glorify God
with our martial arts.
Mission Statement: To reach children and teenagers with the Gospel and
Biblical truth through the martial arts.
Team Name: K. I. K. S. (Kung-fu Influencing Kids for the Savior)
Team Verse: "Some trust in
chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our
God." Psalm 20:7
Team Purpose: To perform
martial arts demonstrations for churches and para-church organizations in
order to be a blessing and spiritual challenge to both saved and unsaved
youth. We will also take every opportunity to present the Gospel to the
lost. Also, we wish to provide a unique Christian ministry for pastors,
administrators, and other youth workers.
Team Goals:
1. To grow spiritually as a team, with each team member drawing closer to
God in his or her own spiritual walk.
2. To grow physically, with each team member becoming effective and skillful
in the practice of Sheng Dan Chuan Kung Fu, both as a means of defense and
as a means of bridging the gap from martial arts to spiritual application,
3. To grow mentally, with each team member developing courage, focus, and a
determination to become a better martial artist and Christian.
4. To glorify God in all that we do as a team.
Team Apparel:
-For those with uniforms, that would be a white or black Gi, Dobak/Dogi, or
Kung Fu uniform.
-For those without a uniform, that would be the KIKS tee-shirt and dark
